Strategic Thinker / Effective Communicator / Creative Designer

My entire career has been in the field of marketing. Most of that has been spent on the creative side as a graphic designer (23+ years), and I have augmented that skillset with video production for the past six years. I'm near the mid-point of my career, and the next stage of my career will be focused on marketing strategy.

My main goals are to:

  1. Communicate effectively
  2. Add value to the client’s business
  3. Be accountable

MARKETING

Branding, Strategy, Competitor Analysis, Lead Generation, Segmentation, Automation, Copywriting, Content Creation, SEO, SEM, Analytics, CRM software (Hubspot), AI hacks, Social Media Management, Paid Advertising

DIGITAL DESIGN

I have experience managing domains, as well as uploading content to CMS' such as: Wordpress, Weekly, Duda, Squarespace, Wix, Drupal, etc. I can write and edit HTML code. Designing digital ads (static and animated) is something I enjoy. I have also designed graphics for E-mail blast campaigns. I have created & managed a number of different social media accounts on multiple platforms. Here is some of my digital design work.

PRINT DESIGN

My wheelhouse is print design. Even though many things have gone digital these days, I always enjoy a print project. I know how to check the colorspace, resolution, crops/bleeds. . . to ensure my files don't have any problems in pre-press. . . or on the press. I have designed high page-count publications (designed in layers for multiple versions), and I have also designed stationery: letterhead/envelope/business cards.

LOGO DESIGN

I love exploring logo options to figure out what the visual identity of a brand will be. It is the intersection of typography and illustration. I believe that a logo that functions at a smaller size is superior to the logo that has to be large to function. Your logo should be simple enough that you can have it embroidered on the front pocket of a shirt. If it is too complicated for the embroiderer to do that. . . you need a new (simpler) logo. Here are some of my logo designs.

AUDIO

I enjoy capturing audio of live music performances. When it comes to interviews, I know how to mic-up talent with lavalier-mics (wired or wireless). . . and also how to set up some shotgun mics on a boom as a secondary source. I can confidently edit audio files for various purposes. I am adept at narration/voice-over work. I edit audio with Adobe Audition. I record with a Zoom H6 or a Zoom F1, and the mic I use depends on the situation (Behringer C-2s, Sony ECM MS-957, Deity Pocket Wireless mics, Zoom capsule mics, etc).

VIDEO

I have been editing video since 2018, and I can only see it becoming more important to my career as well as our lives in general. While working at Huyett, I helped create a video department within the Marketing department. In that role, I produced corporate videos that helped enrich social media content and drive the business forward. I have recently been editing 360 video from the Insta360 X3. In the past few years, I have begun producing more vertical videos for social media. I also enjoy creating music videos, timelapse sequences, and location-based videos. I use Adobe Premiere to edit videos, and I use Adobe AfterEffects for motion graphics.

PHOTOGRAPHY

I got my first digital camera in 2000 (The Sony Mavica) and I have been taking photos ever since. I now use a combination of my iPhone, a Nikon DSLR, and a GoPro for my photography. I've love landscape and nature photography, but I have also been employed as a staff/corporate photographer that focused on company events and product photography. My strongest skill as a photographer is composition. Here is some of my best photography. On the technical side, I'm adept at making specific edits in Adobe Photoshop, batch edits in Adobe  Lightroom, and organizing/tagging in Adobe Bridge.

ILLUSTRATION

I have been creating illustrated event posters for the past ten years. Hand-drawn typography has always had a big part to play in my poster illustrations. I also enjoy doing medical illustrations and technical illustrations as well. Map illustration is a passion, and I will jump at the chance to work on a map project.

ABSTRACT PAINTING

In December of 2019, I started painting again. In May of 2022, I had the first exhibit of my artwork at CityArts in Wichita.

SOFT SKILLS

TIME MANAGEMENT

I am focused on taking projects to completion with a high level of accuracy and detail. Managing multiple projects, and balancing priorities is a skill that I bring to the table.

COMMUNICATION

All design and art are essentially about communication. Of course, I aim for the final project to communicate well, but I believe that also manifests itself in how communication happens between individuals and teams when working on a project. Good design is good communication.

ORGANIZATION / ARCHIVAL WORK

Archiving, organizing, and tagging large collections of physical and/or digital assets is a project that I enjoy. I seem to have a mind for tedious work on long-term projects.

LEARNING

Life is a journey of learning, and I love being able to discover new ideas and solutions. Learning (whether it be formal or informal education) is part of who I am. I look for opportunities and environments not only where I can succeed, but where I will also be challenged.
